We will mark the Century of the Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand – the trigger for the start of World War 1 with a service in the Tithe Barn Courtyard at 6pm on Saturday June 28th, Armed Forces Day.

Kitchner’s volunteers 1914
One hundred years after the soldiers who volunteered to fight in the war assembled in front of St Mary’s Priory Church to swear their oath and receive a blessing we will gather to remember their service for freedom and liberty.
Poems and Biblical readings will be read by a pupil from Cantref School, a cadet, The Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council and the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent. The service will be attended by cadets and veterans who will have marched from the site of the 1914 Drill Hall past the 3rd Mons War Memorial to the church. The Service will be led by Fr Mark Soady and the Choir of St Mary’s Priory Church.
Earlier in the year Flanders Poppies were planted in the courtyard and it is hoped they will be in bloom by the date of the service.
All are welcome to attend the service.
