Canon Andrew Willie, who is an Associate Priest in the Abergavenny area, has just
published The Turin Shroud and the Mystery of Faith. The book explores the Shroud’s image, its history and its authenticity, especially in the light of the carbon dating process. The book questions the process and shows why the result is at least improbable. It also explores faith in terms of the Shroud. This gives the book a devotional aspect, which is enhanced by basic photos of the Shroud and the fine charcoal drawings by Nigel R. Pugh.
Dr Rowan Williams writes: I think it a really interesting piece; and it does what no other essay on the Shroud does, connecting the facts of the Shroud with our prayer and uderstanding of the Lord’s Passion. The exposition is very clear and satisfying.
The book is available from the Tithe Barn at £8.95 per copy. Nigel R. Pugh’s Stations of the Cross are to be seen in St Mary’s throughout Lent.
